The Government and people of the Virgin Islands are mourning the loss of renowned cultural figure Jeavon Sasso, who passed away recently.
Sasso, as he was affectionately known, was celebrated as a true Virgin Islands cultural icon. Born in the United States Virgin Islands with roots in the British Virgin Islands, he made his mark as a gifted singer, songwriter, and recording artist whose music resonated deeply across the territory.
For many years, Sasso was a prominent presence at the Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival, where he performed with acclaimed bands such as Jam Band, Poizon Band, and Karnage Band, as well as under his own name. His performances were widely cherished, earning him the admiration of fans throughout the Virgin Islands.
“On behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, I extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fans of the late Jeavon Sasso,” said Junior Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Sustainable Development, Luce Hodge-Smith in a statement on Monday.
