A team representing the British Virgin Islands has advanced to the finals of the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s Regional Nex-Gen Tourism Showcase and will present its innovative tourism concept during Caribbean Week in New York on June 4.
The team, representing the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, will showcase its project titled “Caribbean Green & Blue Economy Tourism Hub.”
According to organizers, the proposed concept is a self-sustaining tourism model that connects marine restoration with land-based sustainability initiatives. The project envisions tourism revenue directly supporting conservation efforts, while stronger ecosystems contribute to a more resilient tourism destination.
The initiative is also designed around eco-tourism and educational experiences, with a focus on responsible development, community participation and shared economic benefits.
Representing the Territory are HLSCC students Adrianne Thomas, Auri-Ana El Shabazz, and Naomi Onwufuju.
The showcase forms part of Caribbean Week in New York, one of the region’s premier tourism events, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers and emerging innovators from across the Caribbean.
