Police were called earlier this week to a supermarket in Pasea Estate following a disturbance involving two customers during which a weapon was allegedly brandished.
The incident, which was captured on video and circulated publicly, showed a busy shopping environment as staff and security personnel worked to contain the situation.
In a statement, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force confirmed that officers responded to reports of a disturbance at a business establishment in Road Town on Tuesday, May 26, involving reports of a weapon.
According to preliminary police investigations, an altercation occurred between two men during which a machete was allegedly displayed.
Police said no injuries were reported.
The RVIPF further confirmed that one weapon was recovered and investigations into the matter remain ongoing.
Meanwhile, RiteWay Food Markets issued its own statement seeking to reassure customers and staff following the incident.
The company said its team, together with on-site security personnel, acted swiftly to de-escalate the situation and safeguard those present.
RiteWay noted that police were immediately contacted and responded promptly, helping to prevent further escalation.
The supermarket chain emphasized that the safety and wellbeing of customers and employees remain its highest priority and thanked the public for its continued support and understanding.
