Sheldon Frett joins Los Angeles stage production under oscar-winning director

Actor Sheldon Frett has joined the cast of “Master Harold” …and the Boys, now playing at the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. The production runs from April 8 through May 10, 2026, at the venue’s Gil Cates Theater.

The play is co-directed by Emily Mann and Academy Award winner Tarell Alvin McCraney, who also serves as the theater’s artistic director.

Frett appears as an understudy for the role of Willie, joining a cast bringing new life to Athol Fugard’s acclaimed drama. A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Frett has built a career across stage and screen, with classical credits including Shakespearean works such as Pericles, Henry VI, and Titus Andronicus.

On screen, Frett made his film debut alongside Viola Davis and the late Chadwick Boseman in the film Get On Up. His television work includes roles in the British comedy series Hitmen with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, as well as the drama series Shots Fired.

Speaking about the opportunity, Frett said he is honored to work under McCraney’s direction and proud to represent the British Virgin Islands on an international stage.

“Being part of this production under the direction of Tarell Alvin McCraney is an incredible opportunity to grow as an artist. I am also proud to continue highlighting the British Virgin Islands on an international stage, showing the world the talent and stories that come from our home.”

“Master Harold” …and the Boys is set in apartheid-era South Africa and explores themes of race, power, and friendship. The story centers on a young white boy and his complex relationships with two Black men who work in a tea shop, revealing emotional tensions shaped by systemic inequality.

Performances are scheduled Wednesdays through Sundays, with opening night set for April 16. Tickets and additional information are available through the Geffen Playhouse.
