NEW TRC CHAIRMAN AND DEPUTY NAMED

According to the order paper for the Fifth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly which will convene today February 20th, 2020. Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie will move a motion to appoint Mr. Vance Lewis as the new chairman of the TRC Board, and he will also appoint Mr Vincent Wattley to serve as Deputy Chairman.

The Order Paper outlines that following proper procedures, the Minister responsible for telecommunications, Hon Kye M. Rymer has, after consultation with the Leader of the Opposition Hon Marlon A. Penn, recommended to the Cabinet the appointment of both Mr. Lewis and Mr. Wattley.

Mr. Lewis is also the current Chief Executive Officer at the Cyril B. Romney Tortola Pier Park and his appointment as Chairman of the Board at the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission is for a period of three years with effect from February 1st, 2020. Mr. Wattley will also serve for the same length of time.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector of the Virgin Islands which includes some four carriers, Flow, Digicel (BVI), CCT Global Communications and BVI Cable TV.

Additionally, the TRC is also responsible for issuing radio and TV station licenses and awarding radio frequencies among other duties and is also responsible for promoting the development of telecommunications throughout the VI.
