PREMIER FAHIE ANNOUNCES EXTENSION OF 24-HOUR LOCKDOWN

Today, the death of a 52 year old woman has sent shock-waves through the Virgin Islands’ territory. The victim was suspected of having COVID-19 after preliminary testing returned positive. The Government awaits further confirmation from The Caribbean Public Health Agency (CAPHRA) in Trinidad & Tobago as it pertains to the deceased status as it relates to COVID-19.

In a LIVE press conference hosted just a few hours ago, the Premier of the Virgin Islands, Hon. Andrew A. Fahie addressed residents of the territory informing them that there will be an extension of preventative measures being put in place after the devastating death.

This extension comes days after the Government rolled out phase one of the territory’s re-opening plan which was to take effect from tomorrow, 19th April 2020.

In his speech today the Premier said as he address residents ” you would understand that the present circumstances leave us no choice but to adjust these plans to ensure your safety”

He went on to further say “In this regard, the phased re-opening of business has to be pushed back and we need to extend the 24-hour curfew for just a few days more from today onward, until we are certain that it is safe.”

The Premier explained that all indications leave them to be hopeful that this extension will only be for a short period.

He assured the viewers of the press conference that further details on the extended lock-down will be issued later this evening after Cabinet has finished ironing out all the necessary logistics.
