POLICE HEADQUARTERS RETURNS TO THE SIR OLIVER GEORGES PLAZA

After the 2017 hurricanes, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force Headquarters at the Sir Oliver Georges Plaza was destroyed.

In December 2017, the Police Headquarters relocated to the upstairs of Rite Way Supermarket in Pasea Estate.

Two and a half years later, the Police Headquarters is officially relocating back to Sir Oliver Georges Plaza, Waterfront (opposite the Road Town Ferry Terminal).

Our newsroom caught up with Police Commissioner, Mr. Michael Matthews and in an invited Commissioner Matthews explained how he felt about the refurbishing of the Police Headquarters.

Commissioner Matthews said “I am delighted we will be able to now have a fully functioning, operational and modern Police Head Quarters. The challenges of policing today in the Territory need a comprehensive command capability response, supported by a fully functioning HQ base. The refurbished Police HQ has been redesigned internally to provide an enhanced HQ Command capacity and capability. The redesign has also increased security to the building and those within it as well as modernize our reception and meeting arrangements for the public.”

Commissioner Matthews also sincerely expressed his gratitude to the team at the Rite Way Supermarket.

He said “I am delighted we have reached this point at last but will remain eternally grateful to Mr Guy Strickland and his team at Riteway on Pasea for their tremendous kindness and support over the past three years in our ‘temporary’ location above the supermarket. I have no idea where I will get my easy to grab lunches now!”

The Police Headquarters will be closed on Friday 26th June to facilitate the relocation and will be fully operational from June 30th, 2020, by appointment only. Appointments can be made by calling 1(284)368-7937.
