NEW CURFEW ORDER ISSUED: CURFEW HOURS REMAIN, BEACH HOURS INCREASED

As of July 1st 2020, a new Curfew Order came into effect in the British Virgin Islands.

Yesterday, Cabinet met and advised that the National Security Council instruct the Attorney General to draft a new Curfew Order No. 23 of 2020.

Firstly, the curfew hours remain from midnight to 5:00 a.m. for a period of fourteen (14) days.

Also, the hours remain the same for the operation of vessels and ferries in the territory’s waters.

Private vessels are permitted to continue to use Territorial waters during full daylight hours from 5:01 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and ferries are allowed to operate in Territorial waters between 5:00 a.m. and midnight.

This curfew order comes with some great news for our beach lovers.

The hours of access to beaches have now been increased. The hours of access to the Territory’s beaches are now from 5:01 a.m. to 11:59 p.m.

This information was given in a statement by Premier of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie.

Hon. Andrew Fahie urged persons to continue to be vigilant.

Premier Fahie said “It is important for the public to understand that although we are making step-by-step changes, there is still no known cure or vaccine for COVID-19. So we must continue to move forward in a controlled way.”

Premier Fahie referred to many countries that are experiencing second waves of the coronavirus. He urged persons by saying “However, it is up to each of us to make sure that this does not become our reality. We cannot afford to let our guards down.”
