THREE ADDITIONAL CASES OF COVID-19 IMPORTED BRINGING THE BVI’S ACTIVE TOLL TO SIX

Three additional cases of covid-19 have been confirmed in the British Virgin Islands. This brings the current toll of active cases to six, all of which were imported following the official reopening of the territory’s borders on December 1st.

This was confirmed by Minister of Health and Social Development, Honorable Carvin Malone who said “we have a total of six active cases when it comes to COVID-19, another three discovered between Sunday and today, Monday. Of this six, four of them were tests done on day zero, on entry.”

The update was made during the December 14th Budget Debate at the House of Assembly.

Honorable Malone said this is a key indicator that the protocols engaged are working efficiently, as all confirmed cases were detected while in mandatory quarantine.

“It works. The other two were caught at the exit of day 4. So here you have six but each of them in the quarantine space,” Honorable Malone said.

Health authorities have received several reports of persons trying to breach the quarantine, despite having to wear tracking devices.

As a result, Honorable Malone is now imploring all residents of the territory to speak out if they see something.

“Quarantine and testing requirements must be followed and anyone who violates this will be found and fined in accordance with all of our established laws and protocols. Thus I am appealing to every resident and visitor to be our brother’s and sister’s keeper and report any suspicion of breaching by calling 311. If you see something, say something. We are in this together.”

To date the territory has recorded 79 confirmed cases inclusive of a record 72 recoveries, 1 death and 6 active cases.
