BVI’S RIKKOI A. R. BRATHWITE SPRINTS TO NUMBER 8 IN THE WORLD, NUMBER 1 IN THE NCAA

History was made on Saturday February 27th, when the BVI’s very own Sprinter Rikkoi A. R. Brathwaite of Indiana University raced his way to victory in 6.55 seconds, breaking his own personal best BVI Indoor record. Brathwaite beat defending champion Jamaica’s Wasee Williams of Purdue and broke his 6.58 seconds big 10 Indoor Conference Championships 60m record from 2020.

Brathwaite joined Minnesota’s Long & Triple jumper Keita Cline & Illinois Ashley Kelly, 400m, as BVI Big 10 Indoor Conference Champions. He won Friday’s semifinal in 6.68 seconds placing himself number 1 in the NCAA and number 8 in the world.

Additionally, he currently holds the record at IU in this event, the first of the NCAA Big Ten Championship title ever won by a BVI National in a Division 1 University.

Brathwaite joins a number of highly talented BVI athletes who continue to excel in their respected sporting disciplines while highlighting the exceptional athletic capabilities of Virgin Islands athletes.
