YOUNG JALEEL CAMERON DONATES $1000 IN GROCERY VOUCHERS TO FAMILIES IN NEED FOR EASTER

Guided by his passion and care for the community, young philanthropist Jaleel F. Cameron through the Jaleel Cameron Foundation has donated 10 food vouchers to the Social Development Department.

The $1000 worth of vouchers will be distributed just in time for Easter to assist families who are struggling as a result of the economic fallout from Covid-19.

Last Saturday, the Jaleel Cameron Foundation hosted a Flea Market sale across from Crafts Alive to raise funds for the initiative. Jaheel shared that while sales fell short of the $1000 goal, his foundation supplemented the rest needed to meet the donation.

In speaking with our newsroom today, Jaleel said  “I just want to say thank you to everyone that supported. Thank you to Digicel, everyone that came out and bought stuff from the yard sale. I will always continue to be thankful for the people that always support me because without the support, there’s no foundation. It’s the people’s foundation not my foundation. So thank you to everyone who continues to support me and I hope that you can find some sort of pride in knowing that you have kept some families fed this Easter”

Jaleel, who began his humanitarian work at the tender age of 10 has supported many ventures throughout the territory. Most notably, in 2015 he superseded his goal of $17,000 by raising and donating $20,000 towards the purchase of an electroencephalography machine also known as an EEG Machine at the then Peebles Hospital.

An EEG machine is most often used to diagnosed epilepsy which is absent in the Territory for testing. After being diagnosed with epilepsy, Jaleel began selling water to generate funds to purchase the machine. His efforts did not go unnoticed and persons and organizations contributed to help him surpass his goal.

In light of the economic impact that Covid-19 has had on the territory, Jaleel is imploring persons to “give back as much as you can”.
