SOCIAL DISTANCING IN BVI SCHOOLS REDUCED BY 50%; ALLOWING MORE STUDENTS TO RETURN TO FACE-FACE SESSIONS

In an interview with 284 Media on March 18th, 2021, Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Dr. Hon. Natalio Wheatley revealed his plans to propose a change in legislation to the Cabinet of the Virgin Islands to allow for three (3) feet distancing instead of six (6) feet, with hopes of maybe reopening schools to full in class sessions for the Trinity Term.

The Minister said that the change in social distancing would still be within WHO rules and regulations and that it would allow most students to be able to return to the classroom.

The reduction of social distancing protocols by fifty percent has since been confirmed by Premier Fahie and leader of Government Business, Hon. Andrew A Fahie.

Premier and Minister for Finance Hon. Andrew Fahie made the disclosure during his COVID-19 update on April 8. He said: “With regards to school, we have reduced the distancing in the classrooms from six feet to three feet to now allow most of our students to return for face-to-face instruction.”

Additionally, he noted that students “will still have to observe all protocols, and this is in keeping with the advice of international and local health officials.”
