WEEKEND OPERATION BY POLICE RESULT IN ONE ARRESTED, DETAINED SCOOTERS AND VEHICLE, ALONG WITH SEVERAL ISSUED TICKETS

One motor vehicle and four scooters were confiscated during the weekend’s operation by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) which resulted in at least one driver being arrested and several issued tickets.

This was revealed in a media release from the RVIPF on Tuesday June 22, which said a ten-member team from the Road Policing Unit, Armed Response Unit and Beat and Patrol Unit conducted the operation.

According to the police, the operation team reported three persons for prohibited tint, two for having a loud muffler and one for driving an unlicensed and uninsured vehicle. These six persons will subsequently be charged.

In addition, the police team also issued eight tickets; two for driving without seatbelts, four for standing in the tray of a moving truck, one for riding without a helmet and one for not having a front identification plate.

Speaking on the success of the operation, Commissioner of Police Mark Collins lauded the officers for their persistence over the past weeks in ensuring that vehicle users comply with the road traffic laws.

He also warned the public that similar operations will continue through the summer months, with emphasis being placed on loud motor scooters and heavily tinted motor vehicles.

These persons in breach of the law are strongly advised to make the necessary modifications to their vehicle to ensure they are in compliance with the road traffic laws.
