BREAKING NEWS – 13 POSITIVE ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES IN THE BVI – 3 SYMPTOMATIC WITH NO RECENT TRAVEL HISTORY

The British Virgin Islands now have a total of 13 active positive COVID-19 cases of which three are symptomatic with no recent travel history.

This was revealed by the Minister of Health Carvin Malone in an impromptu press conference on Tuesday June 29.

He said, “As of yesterday 28th June 2021, a total of 56,092 tests were conducted on individuals swob throughout the territory and assessed at the Dr. D Orlando Hospital. The Virgin Islands now records a total of 313 cases with 299 recoveries and one death.”

He added, “There are presently 13 active positive cases in the territory, three of which were presented with symptoms and had no travel history. Active contact tracing of these cases continues and a number of primary contacts have been quarantined and scheduled for testing at the appropriate time.”

Contact tracing efforts ongoing

The health minister also said that contact tracing efforts are presently proactive and urged persons who would have recently visited four establishments to call the department at 468-4936 to provide names for contact tracing and testing for COVID-19.

The locations and times are:
1. June 20 – Club Aqua between the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
2. June 20 – Club Crystals 10:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m.
3. June 20 – Deuces 11:00 p.m. to closing
4. June 18 – Island Sizzle

Persons who have attended these locations at the specified times are asked to self-isolate. Testing for these individuals will be administered on day 10, post exposure.

Follows recent supermarket positive cases

The press conference follows the recent events of Monday June 28, where a popular local supermarket issued a media posting which confirmed that three of their staff members presented symptoms of the virus and were sent for testing.

In a subsequent media release from the establishment, they confirmed that two of the test results returned a positive result for the COVID-19 virus.
