AN INJURED SCOOTER RIDER IS IN POLICE CUSTODY AFTER POINTING GUN AT THREE POLICE OFFICERS

One male is in police custody after being involved in an armed confrontation with members of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force along the dual carriageway on Thursday.

This was confirmed by the RVIPF in a media release on Friday August 20, which said the incident occurred around 12pm and involved a motor scooter rider.

“Around midday yesterday, officers of the East End Police Station attended the scene of a lone scooter accident near Delta Gas Station where the rider had sustained visible injuries,” the release stated.

“While Police waited for the arrival of the ambulance, the rider took out a handgun, pointed it at the three officers and then attempted to escape on foot into the Johnson’s Ghut area. He was subsequently captured by the Armed Response Team,” the release added.

The man is presently at the Dr. D Orlando Smith Hospital receiving treatment for his injuries.

Charges are pending upon his release.

Police said investigations are still ongoing.
