RESIDENTS URGED TO SETTLE THEIR WATER & SEWAGE BILLS OR FACE DISCONNECTION BY OCT 1

Director of the Water and Sewerage Department Mrs. Perline Scatliffe-Leonard is inviting customers of the department to settle outstanding arrears by October 1 to avoid disconnection.

Mrs. Scatliffe-Leonard said that the department continues to work in COVID-19 and that it is necessary that various services are reinstated that would allow the department to cover the expenses that it incurs.

“To this end, customers are advised that effective 1st October, 2021 the disconnection and reconnection services of the Water and Sewerage Department will resume,” Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard said.  She added, “All accounts are considered past due and delinquent after 30 days, from the bill date, and are subject to having service discontinued.”

The Director stated that disconnection will be executed for all amounts due, for water usage and sewerage services up to August 31.

“Any service disconnected for non-payment will remain disconnected until all delinquent amounts, as well as a $20.00 reconnection fee, have been paid in full,” she said.

Customers are advised to settle an account if a payment was not made to the department in over two (2) months. Water reconnections are done on the day of payment before 3:30 p.m.  If the payment is made after 3:30 p.m. the water reconnection, will be the following day. Someone should be present at the residence upon reconnection to ensure that there is no uncontrolled running water.

Mrs. Scatliffe-Leonard expressed appreciation to the government of the Virgin Islands for its foresight in this time, specifically for the Free-Water period that extended from March to June 2020. This initiative she said, ensured that customers had access to free potable water ensuring, best healthy practices.

For additional queries and concerns on accounts, customers may telephone the department at 468-5834 or email wsd@gov.vg. Persons should expect a response within 24-hours during the regular work week.  Concerns received after 2:00 p.m. on a Friday will be addressed by 12:00 noon the following working Monday.
