VG BAYSIDE BLAZERS ARE THE MEN’S NATIONAL DISTRICT LEAGUE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS WHILE CONTROVERSY LEADS TO JR SKILLFUL BALLERS BEING AWARDED JR CHAMPIONS

VG Bayside Blazers are the BVI Basketball Federation’s 2021 District League Champions after completing a comprehensive 22-point victory against finalist A’s.

Playing in game four of the five match series at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex on Tortola on Friday, VG Blazers lead at the end of each quarter 23-15, 49-39, 75-60, to eventually win the game 98-76, taking the series 3-1.

For the Blazers Kimron Telemaque along with teammate Stephano Paul collected a joint game high 18 points, while Frank Quashie finished close by with 16 points.

Telemaque also collected the Most Valuable Player award for his overall performance in the finals, amassing a total of 55 points, 14 rebounds, 9 assists and 7 steals.

For A’s, Jevon Demmings led the charge with a joint game high 18 points, while Juan Richards and Shakeem Blackmoore finished with 16 and 15 points respectively.

Meanwhile in the junior division, Jr Skillful Ballers was awarded the championship after Jr VG Bayside Blazers forfeited the fifth and decisive match on Saturday, following controversy over a late change of referees.

In the match which was played on Friday, Jr Skillful Ballers pulled off a 12-point victory to level the series 2-2.

Kyron Walwym collected a game high double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds, with 8 blocks, 5 steals and 3 assists while Carlyiek Benjamin followed with 19 points and 9 steals.

For Jr VG Bayside Blazers, Tkhoi Richardson and Demron Glasgow both had a team high double-double with Richardson collecting 21 points and 11 rebounds which also included 9 steals, and Glasgow finishing with 21 points and 18 steals.
