VIRGIN GORDA WOMAN RECEIVES NEW HOME

Virgin Gorda resident Ms. Judy-ann Steven has received the keys to a newly built home as part of the Housing Recovery Assistance Programme.

The keys were presented by Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Carvin Malone, Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Honourable Vincent Wheatley, along with the Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Health and Social Development Mr. Greg Massicote on October 5.

Honourable Malone expressed satisfaction stating, “On behalf of the Ministry of Health and Social Development I would like to say that we will continue to do whatever is necessary to get people into homes, get their homes repaired and rebuilt, and making sure that whatever the Government can do within its means, that we can make the process as efficient as possible.”

Honourable Vincent Wheatley added that he was grateful to the Ministry of Health to be able to turnover one more in the Ninth District. “It shows that no district is being left behind,” Honourable Wheatley said, adding, “Since the hurricanes of 2017 we had so many homes destroyed. So many persons had to go to bed wondering or hoping it doesn’t rain. Again, we want persons to be patient, we are going to get there however slowly, but we give thanks; and I am happy for Ms. Stevens who has waited three and a half years to be able to open her door and say ‘This is my home’.”

Meanwhile, beneficiary and Virgin Gorda resident Ms. Judy-ann Steven expressed her gratitude at being able to move into her new home after receiving a grant which assisted her in rebuilding efforts after her home sustained major damages after the 2017 hurricanes.

The Housing Recovery Assistance Programme is designed to help homeowners rebuild in the wake of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in accordance with the provisions of the Virgin Islands Housing Recovery Policy and Hurricane Irma Recovery Plan.
