ESHS JUNIOR AND SENIOR SCHOOL CLOSED AS TEACHER STAGE SICK OUT PROTEST

Today October 27th, 2021 more than half of teachers of the Elmore Stoutt Junior high school called in sick causing the Ministry of Education to call off school for today October 27th, 2021.

It is alleged that officials got wind of the plan to do the same at the senior high school and canceled senior school to do “remedial cleaning” works.

Our newsroom was made aware of the situation from parents and teachers. Our newsroom also reached out to Minister for Education and Culture Dr. Hon. Natalio Wheatley who did not issue a comment on the situation but promised return our call.

Teachers across the territory of the Virgin Islands have recently voiced their dissatisfaction with the state of education and treatment of educators in the Virgin Islands. In response to this the Government offered teachers a $300 stipend, yet officials, parents and students seem shocked at the staged sick out.

More to come as the story develops.
