HON. ALVERA MADURO-CAINES SPONSORS YOUNG DISTRICT RESIDENTS FOR FUN DAY

Representative for the Sixth District, Honourable Alvera Maduro-Caines will sponsor 60 young people between the ages of 5-18 for a fun day at Cappoons Bay. The fun day will feature the largest water slide in the Leeward Islands and other activities. Maduro-Caines’ sponsorship will enable registrants an unlimited number of slides for the duration of the event. The sponsorship is part of Maduro-Caine’s initiative to support youth development and to support positive recreation activities for residents of the sixth district. The sponsorship comes at a time when the young residents are re-emerging from almost 16 months of school closures.

“My district is always full of energy and that is because of the large youth population. I have been mindful of them since the onset of the pandemic and how it has affected their student lives, their education experience and quality, and even their graduations and proms. I think it is time to encourage them to reemerge into a world they didn’t know, with strong support and lots of encouragement. This event is perfect to get many district youths back together and enjoying some play, teamwork and just being children again,” she said.

Members of the district were notified of the fun day via posts on the District Six Community Board on Facebook and are also allowed to register there. To qualify you only need to live or vote in the district, submit the name of the young people whom you are registering for and register a name of who will collect the tickets. High School students can collect tickets themselves but must do so outside of school hours. Ticket distribution will take place on Friday 19th November at the House of Assembly Offices, Richard C. Stoutt Building in Road Town between 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The youth support initiative is one of the many ways Maduro-Caines plans to support her district this holiday season. Students have also decorated the Omar Wallace Hodge Fisherman’s Wharf and Park, earning valuable community service hours, and residents will soon be treated to a children’s and adult’s party and holiday rap battle with prizes in December.

The fun day will be held on Sunday 21st November and Monday 22nd November and is presented by Redemption Aqua World and the BVI Recreation Trust.
