HEALTH MINISTRY TO LEGISLATE HEFTY FINES ALONG WITH LICENSE SUSPENSIONS FOR THE DUMPING OF ILLEGAL BULK WASTE

The issue of persons not properly disposing of waste items across the territory is seemingly finally getting some attention. Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon. Carvin Malone, recently in a Facebook post shared that the ministry of health is moving to legislate a fine of some $5000 for persons in breach.

The post read, “Amazing! The Ministry is moving immediately to legislate a $5,000 fine and suspension of license for all inconsiderate and despicable persons caught and prosecuted for illegally dumping bulk waste in this fashion. Whistle blowers will be rewarded for persons identified, reported and convicted. CCTV’S will be installed at all hot spots.”

Malone continued, “Now! Tell me – why should this be required for persons claiming to LOVE THE BVI. The staff of Solid Waste Development clear these areas and immediately there are illegal dumping. Enough is enough.”

The move by the Ministry has seemingly garnered much support from the public with many persons taking to the Ministers post in support, some even suggesting that the fines be increased.
