PUBLIC SERVICE WEEK INITIATIVE SEEKS TO ASSIST PUBLIC OFFICER COLLIN STEVENS WITH THERAPY COST WHO WAS LEFT PARALYZED AFTER LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT; DEPUTY GOVERNOR MAKES APPEAL FOR SUPPORT

The Government of the Virgin through the Public Service Commission which falls under the portfolio of the Deputy Governor of the Virgin Islands Mr. David D Archer Jr. has sought to do something very special in observance of the upcoming Public Service Week. Public service week is being observed during December 6th-9th and will feature a number of events and activities. The theme for this year’s week is, “A Public Service Christmas: Celebrating Family, Joy and Togetherness”.

The annual activities which are geared towards building team spirit among public officers will not only see its usual fun, team building activities and public outreach but this year special attention has been brought to the needs of a former public servant Mr. Collin Stevens.

In an invited comment by our agency, Deputy Governor Mr. David Archer said, “As we may remember, Colin Stevens was involved in a lone vehicular accident on December 5th, 2019 that occurred at Fahie Hill, Tortola, which saw his vehicle flipping over an embankment and tumbling down a hill. Mr. Stevens received life threatening injuries which resulted in him becoming paralyzed.

He was a diligent Public Officer who worked as a member of Her Majesty’s Customs as a Customs Officer. He is a part of our public service family and the planning committee for Public Service Week thought it fitting to assist Mr. Stevens with a contribution that would aid in him being able to walk again.

I know that his therapy sessions are around $100 dollars per session and this can be a challenge. So, Public Officers are giving generously towards this initiative for our fellow Officer, Mr. Stevens.

I am encouraging not only Public Officers, but the wider Virgin Islands community to assist us in our efforts. They can do so by attending our Christmas Jamboree on Friday 10th December in the Queen Elizabeth II Park and giving their donation. This event is the perfect opportunity to begin the holiday season and I expect us to have a good time celebrating the season and doing something good for our fellow Officer and member of our community.”

Public servants are encouraged to support this imitative.
