34 HOMES BUILT FOR RESIDENTS DISPLACED AFTER IRMA UNDER THE VIP ADMINISTRATION SINCE 2019 – SAYS PREMIER FAHIE

Since the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Administration took office in 2019 approximately 34 homes have been built for socially displaced residents who were affected by the hurricanes of 2017.

This was revealed by Premier Andrew Fahie during his annual First District Report which was held in Capoon’s Bay on the night of Saturday January 29.

He said that since being elected in February 2019, the Ministry of Health and Social Development has completed a total of 34 housing projects.

Also present during the report to give their testimony on the initiative was West End resident Franklyn “Frankie” Smith who received his keys to his new home back in November 2021.

Smith thanked the VIP government for ensuring that both him and his mother now have a comfortable house to live in.

JOE’S HILL MANOR PROJECT SOON FINISHED

Meanwhile, Premier Andrew Fahie also revealed that Joe’s Hill Manor housing development project will soon be completed and ready to receive residents.

He said despite this project commencing under the last National Democratic Party Administration, it was his government’s goal to see the project through to ensure that residents can benefit from the initiative.

The leader of government business also said that his government has been doing a lot since taking office to ensure that locals become land and house owners.

He said this was also evident in the recently ended stamp duty waiver initiative which exempted all locals from having to pay taxes on land and house purchases made between 2020 to the end of 2021.

According to the premier, this initiative saved locals more than $5 million in total, which would have been from taxes accumulated from all the properties bought during the tax exemption period.
