RIKKOI NOW THE ONLY BVI ATHLETE WITH 2 MEDALS AT NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Top local sprinter Rikkoi Brathwaite inked his name in BVI athletics history once again to become the only local athlete to secure two medals at the NCAA Indoor Championships and the only local male athlete to secure a podium finish at the NCAA level.

This was achieved after his silver medal performance in the final of the Men’s 60-meter event at the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on Saturday.

Representing Indiana University, Brathwaite finished second with a personal best time of 6.52 seconds, which also marked a new Indiana University Record and a new BVI Indoor National Record in the 60-meter.

That event was won by South Carolina University Davonte Burnett who clocked a personal best time of 6.50 seconds.

Brathwaite will now place all focus on the World Indoor Championships which is set to take place in Belgrade, Serbia from Friday March 18.

He is also scheduled to compete in the upcoming NCAA outdoor season in the 100-meter and 200-meter events, representing Indiana University in his final collegiate outdoor season.
