BVI CARIFTA TEAM MEMBERS LEFT STRANDED FOLLOWING INTERCARIBBEAN AIRLINES CANCELLATION

A welcome home celebration for some of the BVI CARIFTA athletes had to be endured virtually as their scheduled flight by regional airlines InterCaribbean was allegedly cancelled, leaving the athletes stranded in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

This is according to Premier and Minister for Tourism Honourable Andrew Fahie who made that disclosure during Tuesday evening’s homecoming ceremony for the BVI CARIFTA delegation.

The premier said that he was informed by the Junior Minister for Tourism Honourable Sharie De Castro that InterCaribbean had cancelled the flight, leaving the athletes and coaches with no alternative at that time.

He further informed the spectators who had gathered at the event that Honourable De Castro had organised a private plane to collect those stranded in Turks and Caicos Islands.

De Castro was commended for her overall involvement in the travel logistics of getting the athletes back into the territory in a much more timely manner than originally anticipated.
