FIRE OFFICER SHAQHOI SMITH’S MOTORCYCLE FOUND; BURIAL STOPPED AS FAMILY REQUEST AUTOPSY, CONCERNS OF FOUL PLAY MOUNT

In a heartbreaking turn of events, relatives of fallen Fire Officer Shaquoi Smith stopped his burial on Saturday May 21st while suspicions of his death continue to mount.

Plans for an interment at the Johnson’s Ghut Cemetery changed as family members decided to return the body back to the hospital’s morgue to allow for an autopsy to be performed.

24-year-old Shaquoi Smith, a well-known fire officer died at the Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital on Friday, April 22, four days after he was allegedly involved in a scooter accident in the Belle Vue area.

However, at the time of accident Smith’s motorcycle was not found at the scene upon arrival of police but the motorcycle has since been recovered allegedly “intact”, this has heightened the fears of close family and friends of a suspicious death.

Smith who joined the BVI Fire and Services in February, 2017 received a full ceremonial honour guard as a fallen firefighter. The funeral service was held at the New Life Baptist Church, Duffs Bottom.

Since Smith’s death and since the events of his funeral service unfolded, there has been no statements or updates from the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).
