STEVEN SPENCER WINS BVITB’s JUNIOR BVI CHEF SUNSET SHOWDOWN COOKING COMPETITION

Chef Steven Spencer was crowned the winner of the BVI Tourist Board’s Junior BVI Chef Sunset Showdown Cooking Competition on Friday evening after amassing a total of 380 points in the finals.

Spencer who is presently a chef at the Long Bay Beach Resort on Tortola took home the grand prize of $5000 along with a Bamboushay pottery trophy.

Second place went to Bath Turtle Chez Bamboo’s Chef Kavon Kishasammy while Chef Aszeke Oliver of the Moorings finished third.

Chef Spencer also spoke about how he felt after being crowned the winner to hosts Esther Fraser and Temulji Hughes who were representing the BVI Tourist Board and the BVI Film Commission.

Also present at the competition was Premier and Minister of Tourism Dr. the Honourable Natalio Wheatley

He said he was inspired by the performances of the three finalists and spoke about the importance of having such competitions in the territory.

Meanwhile, Junior Minister for Tourism Honourable Alvera Maduro-Caines encouraged more young persons to take up culinary roles.

She said careers in culinary can be extremely rewarding and beneficial to the BVI’s tourism product.
