STUDENTS ACROSS THE BVI ENCOURAGED TO JOIN THE ‘WE RECYCLE’ COMPETITION – RUNS ALL AUGUST

This year’s ‘We Recycle’ student recycling competition is set to commence on August 1 and will be running concurrently on all of the territory’s main islands for the entire month.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Health Honourable Marlon Penn during a recent sitting of the House of Assembly.

He said the competition is a joint initiative by the Department of Waste Management and the Non-Profit Organisation, Green VI, and will coexist on Anegada, Virgin Gorda, Jost Van Dyke and Tortola.

Minister Penn encouraged students across the territory to get involved in the competition which aims to have wider positive implications for the future sustainability of the territory.

“Once registered, students can drop off clean, separated recyclables at a Collection Centre, where deposits will be weighed and recorded. Students who collect the most plastic, or the most glass, or the most aluminum on each island will win a new Laptop Computer. The winners will be announced on September 2 and I wish everyone the best,” he said.

“The contest is intended to put more “WE” into “WE RECYCLE”, so relatives and friends are encouraged to join in and support the students in this recycling drive,” Penn added.

Students interested in signing up for the competition can do so either online at greenvi.org, or via mobile device by calling or texting the number 346-4040 using Whatsapp.
