TROPICAL STORM EARL TO CONTINUE TO AFFECT THE BVI TODAY WITH THUNDERSTORMS EXPECTED THIS AFTERNOON

The British Virgin Islands is expected to experience thunderstorms this afternoon as spiral bands from Tropical Storm Earl continue to affect the territory.

This is according to an early morning weather forecast update by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM).

The forecast predicts that the weak spiral bands from Tropical Storm Earl, aided by a moist and unstable atmosphere, will maintain mostly cloudy skies with a higher chance of showers over the territory today and tonight

During the course of the day, occasional showers are expected with thunderstorms in the afternoon period.

This evening is expected to be mostly cloudy with a 60 percent or moderate chance of lingering evening showers with a reduction in clouds and showers as the night progresses.

Winds are expected to range from 10 to 20 miles per hour from the south to the southwest with possible gusts in showers to 30 miles per hour.

The wind speed is projected to decrease by tonight as Tropical Storm Earl moves further away from the BVI.

The sea swell will range from 4 to 6 feet today with an expectation that those numbers decrease by tonight.

The DDM says that no watches or warnings have been issued over the Virgin Islands, but urged residents to continue to monitor the weather forecast in the Atlantic, in the event of any changes in the weather system.
