HARRIS SLAPPED WITH ILLEGAL FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION CHARGES

A 28-year-old Great Mountain male has been slapped with several charges relating to the illegal firearms which were seized by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force during an operation last week.

He is Stanley Albert Harris and according to the RVIPF he is charged with one count of possession of a prohibited firearm, one count of unlawful possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.

In addition, Harris is also charged with failing to comply with a request of an officer under the new Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act.

A number of illegal weapons including a semi-automatic assault rifle and several rounds of ammunition were discovered by officers of the Special Investigations and Criminal Investigations teams following a series of operations last week.

Five persons including four males and one female were originally in custody on suspicion of illegal firearm possession, however the police confirmed that four were discharged pending further investigation.

Commissioner of Police Mark Collins commended his officers for their “persistent efforts” in pushing to keep illegal firearms off the streets of the territory.

In an effort to further achieve this goal, the RVIPF is asking persons with information on those who have illegal weapons or know where an illegal weapon is being hidden or stored to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.
