CHARITY RYMER BECOMES THE FIRST VIRGIN ISLANDER TO SPEAK IN THE HOUSE OF COMMONS

Miss Charity Rymer created history for the British Virgin Islands moments ago as she became the first Virgin Islander to speak in the United Kingdom’s House of Commons.

Rymer was invited to attend a special segment of the UK’s Youth Parliament as they sat for the first since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

She spoke on the topic of climate change and the impact it has had on the British Virgin Islands.

United Kingdom Speaker in the House of Commons Sir Lindsay Hoyle invited young Virgin Islanders to submit applications to the BVI London Office to be considered for this unique opportunity.

On the directive of the Chairman of the Virgin Islands Youth Parliament (VIYP) Honourable Sharie B. de Castro, candidates were interviewed by a panel consisting of the members of the VIYP and its Secretariat and Rymer was selected as the successful candidate.
