Sugar Boys Football Club continued their 100 percent winning record in the BVI Football Association’s National League over the weekend with a 2-1 victory over One Love United.

In the first half of the game, Roland Roberts put the Sugar Boys ahead in the 37th minute before doubling up with a second goal in the 50th, to give his side complete control in the match.

One Love United managed a consolation goal in the 6th minute of added time, thanks to Jermaine May who found the net.

Speaking after the match Sugar Boys captain Derrol Redhead said it was a very important game for the club as they longed for the three additional points.

He said, “One Love always gives us a tough game and they are a strong team. We are happy to come out with the win and now have players coming back from injury and getting to where we want to be. We know the other teams are out to beat us so will take each game as it comes, but play them like they were finals.”

Wolues thrash Positive FC 16-0

The win has placed Sugar Boys four points clear at the top of the standings on 12 points with Wolues FC in second with 8, after they thrashed Positive Football Club on the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground over the weekend with a 16-0 victory.

Mauricio Villaneva bagged himself a double hat trick with goals 40th, 46th, 57th, 63rd, 82nd and 85th minutes of the match.

Other goals came from Phil Nelson with a first half hat trick in the 10th, 21st and 35th minutes, while Paul Edwards scored a brace in the 3rd and 86th minutes.

Carl Moran (73rd), Gethin Jones (52nd), Marcus Robinson (71st), Tai Thomas (79th) and Thomas Johnson (42nd) each had one goal apiece.

Goal scorer Nelson spoke after the game, stating, “We were happy to not play complacent and to score a lot of goals whilst keeping it shut at the back. It really didn’t feel nice to run up a number on a new team who is learning their way, but we had to play our normal game to keep up with the competition. Positive battled all the way and I’m sure they will improve during the next months”

Rebels FC beat Islanders 4-0 to move third

Meanwhile, Rebels moved into third place on 7 points following a statement 4-0 win over Islanders FC, as Jahmal Prentice added to his league leading tally of eight goals with a first half penalty.

Manager Audain Lennon said the victory was a huge win for his side.

“In order for us to have a chance at the title, we cannot drop any more points and our players are aware of that. Everyone played great football in this game, our defense, our midfield, and the forwards were superb. It was simply great team work all around, we had a game plan, and it was well executed, so right now we can look forward to the Wolues game next Saturday,” he said.
