THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE MUST BE CLEAR – CHRISTOPHER

Former President of the BVI Chamber of Commerce and Hotel Association Troy Christopher believes that Virgin Islanders, as a people, must be very clear and honest when expressing their wants and intentions, and when acknowledging the true circumstances with which they are faced.

At the time, Christopher featured as a guest on the Umoja radio show, speaking on the topic of Constitutional Reform.

He said that in his experience, the language used in statements surrounding issues such as the Order in Council and the right to self-determination have led him to question whether the sentiments expressed are “true or just words.”

At that point, he added, the question becomes whether or not the legal constitution reflects this will.

Christopher also noted that this all comes to a head at a time where Virgin Islanders have had to fight through several intense years, including but not limited to the events of the 2017 Hurricanes, the COVID 19 Pandemic, recovery from the Pandemic, the COI and the loss of Premier Fahie.

Against that backdrop Christopher said it is understandably a lot for Virgin Islanders to handle.

This is a time, he believes, that it is imperative for Virgin Islanders to dig deep to face the forces seemingly pitted against them.
