UPSURGE IN THEFT OF LICENCE PLATES – RVIPF ADVISES CAR OWNERS TO SECURE PLATES

Residents with disabled or inoperable vehicles along roadsides or in unsecured lots whether temporarily, or permanently are being urged by the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force to secure their licence plates.

The warning comes after the RVIPF disclosed that there has been an upsurge in the theft of license plates from vehicles left at unsecured locations.

Road Town Chief Inspector Smyrna Brewley warned of the dangers that can result from this recent illegal practice.

“These licence plates could easily be used on other vehicles to commit crime and evade detection from police,” Brewley stated.

She advised vehicle owners to remove and secure their plates and all other easily removable items in and around the vehicle and encouraged persons to make a report to police as soon as their licence plates are discovered missing.

“Police are inviting persons with information on suspects stealing licence plates from vehicles to contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339,” the RVIPF stated.
