HOA INTENDS TO PASS 16 BILLS IN FINAL SITTING

Members of the House of Assembly intend to, today March 9th 2023, proceed with the second and third readings of 16 key pieces of legislation which they intend to pass through the House ahead of the dissolution of the Fourth House of Assembly, constitutionally due within the next 72 hours.


The 16 bills before the House of Assembly  include the Elections (Amendment) Act.

The remaining 15 are as follows:

  • BVI Business Companies (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Securities and Investment Business (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Financing and Money Services (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Drug Trafficking Offences (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Company Management (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Banks and Trust Companies (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Insurance (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Financial Services Commission (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Limited Partnership (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Elections (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Counterterrorism (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Criminal Justice International Co-operation (Amendment) Act, 2023
  • Financial Investigation Agency (Amendment) Act, 2023

This rush of legislation in the House has been defended as a recommendation of the Financial Action Task Force in preparation for the conduct of mutual evaluations this month. This recommendation was reportedly made during a presentation by experts from the Financial Services Commission to Members of the House of Assembly.
