BVI LOSES 3-1 TO PUERTO RICO AT HOME DESPITE PROMISING START

The British Virgin Islands men’s national team lost their final game of the CONCACAF Nations League tournament 3-1 on Thursday, playing against Group D leaders Puerto Rico at the A. O. Shirley Recreation Ground.

The home boys opened the scoring in the 36th minute after BVI was awarded a penalty which was converted by Tyla Forbes.

Just eight minutes later, Puerto Rico found an equalizer after striker Leandro Antonetti netted from a free kick just outside the 18-yard box.

The visiting team wasted no time in taking the lead, with Devin Vega finding the back of the BVI in the first minute of the second half to put Puerto Rico up 2-1 in the 47th minute.

The final goal for Puerto Rico came in the 94th minute with Ian Javier Silva sealing the deal and the three points to maintain an unbeaten record with 3 victories from 3 games.

Cayman Islands are second in the standings on 2 points with a better goal difference than the BVI which is in third place also with 2 points.
