“PETTY AND DESTRUCTIVE” – LORNA SMITH REACTS TO CAMPAIGN BILLBOARD VANDALISM

At Large Candidate Mrs. Lorna Smith OBE says she is “deeply saddened” by the way members of the community “have become so petty and destructive” with politics.

Smith spoke in a social media post to local forum “The REAL BVI Community Board”.

“In addition to my genuine concern for the troubling state of affairs of our beloved Territory, I have been deeply saddened by the way we have become so petty and destructive with our politics”, she said.

Her statement came after she received an image showing that one of her campaign billboards had been vandalised.

“ The thought that persons would stoop so low had never crossed my mind, as I have always believed in us as a people to take the high road”, she said.

Smith said that while she humbly intends to earn the support of the community in the General Election, she had continued to respect the right of every Virgin Islander to support the candidate of their choosing.

She took the opportunity to ask persons to focus their passion on issues that are affecting the people and to not allow politics to divide the community.

“Let us commit to an election that is free of violence, vandalism and intimidation”, she added.
