TROPICAL CYCLONE ALERT ISSUED FOR BVI & LEEWARD ISLANDS

The Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services issued a tropical cyclone alert on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, for the Leeward Islands and British Virgin Islands. The meteorological office is closely monitoring the progress of Invest 94L (AL94), which has a high chance of developing into a tropical cyclone.

According to the latest update from the National Hurricane Centre, issued at 8:00 a.m. October 18th, it remains unclear whether the system has a well-defined surface circulation.

Since environmental conditions are expected to remain conducive for further development, it is likely that a tropical depression will form within the next day or so. The system is projected to move westward to west-northwestward across the western tropical Atlantic, heading towards the Lesser Antilles.

Residents and interests in the Lesser Antilles are advised to monitor the progress of this system closely.

Regardless of its development, this system has the potential to bring gusty winds, heavy rainfall, and flooding to parts of the Lesser Antilles beginning Friday. The exact impact will depend on the system’s eventual track and intensity.
