JAMAL SMITH IDENTIFIED AS THE DECEASED FROM TUEDAY’S SUSPICIOUS DEATH

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed the tragic demise of local attorney Jamal Smith, whose lifeless body was discovered at his Manuel Hill residence on Tuesday night with apparent gunshot wounds.

The incident, described as “suspicious” by authorities, has prompted a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the 46-year-old.

Smith’s untimely demise was revealed after a thorough search conducted by police following reports of a shooting received via the 911 call centre on Monday, March 11, at approximately 7:30 p.m. Initial reports indicated the incident occurred in the Manuel Reef area, prompting officers and an ambulance to respond swiftly. However, upon arrival, police said no evidence of foul play was discovered at the reported location.

Police said subsequent investigations led authorities to Smith’s residence in the Manuel Hill area on Tuesday, where his body was found.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene,” the RVIPF stated.

In response to the incident, the RVIPF has assured the public of their commitment to conducting a thorough and timely investigation. They have urged anyone with information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, to come forward and assist in the investigation. Individuals can provide information anonymously through the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 or by contacting the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 368-9339.

The revelation has sent shockwaves through the BVI community, as Smith was well-known and respected within the legal fraternity.

Residents across the territory have since commenced sending condolences to the family and friends of Smith. Acting Governor David Archer Jr. was one of the many as he issued his condolences in an official statement on Wednesday. Archer said Smith will be remembered for his altruism as a prominent member of the Virgin Islands legal community who gave many years of service to the Territory by serving on a number of Boards including the Labour Arbitration Tribunal.
