CAVALIERS AND ROYAL KNIGHTS DOMINATE OPENING MATCHES AMID RAIN INTERRUPTIONS

The 2024 BVI Cricket Association’s T20 Competition kicked off in thrilling fashion at the Greenland Cricket Field, despite rain interruptions dampening play.

Cavaliers and Royal Knights emerged as early frontrunners, securing comprehensive victories in their opening matches on Sunday.

In a rain-affected encounter, Cavaliers set the tone with a dominant display against Under the Tree, posting an imposing total of 161 runs for the loss of just 1 wicket in a condensed 12-over innings.

Openers Avishkar Sewkarran and Gavin Hitnarine led the charge with explosive half-centuries, laying the foundation for their team’s commanding performance. Hitnarine’s blistering knock of 60 runs from 34 deliveries, featuring 5 sixes and 7 fours, was complemented by Sewkarran’s unbeaten 63 runs from 35 balls, embellished with 5 sixes and 5 fours.

With rain disrupting proceedings, Under the Tree faced an uphill battle in their chase and faltered, managing only 56 runs and losing 9 wickets in 10.3 overs. Dhanpaul Chrisnanand starred for the Cavaliers, wreaking havoc with the ball to claim impressive figures of 5 wickets for 9 runs from 3 overs, sealing a resounding 104-run victory for his team.

In the day’s second encounter, Royal Knights delivered a masterclass performance, decimating the Vikings Cricket Club with a colossal total of 285 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Man of the match Keion DeJesus stole the show with a sensational innings, smashing 151 runs from just 59 deliveries, comprising 23 fours and 6 sixes. Wayne Richards provided solid support with an unbeaten 74 runs from 35 balls, featuring 6 fours and 6 sixes, propelling Royal Knights to an imposing total.

Chasing the mammoth target, the Vikings struggled to find their footing and could only muster 74 runs from 7 overs before rain intervened, ending play prematurely and handing Royal Knights victory via the Duckworth Lewis-Stern method.

The action-packed competition continues this weekend at the Greenland Cricket Field on Sunday, with Renegades set to clash with Grenada at 9:30 a.m., followed by Falcons taking on Police at 1:30 p.m.
