The Office of the Deputy Governor has announced that all public offices across the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are expected to open today at 11:00 a.m. following intense overnight rainfall that has led to flooding and landslides in multiple communities.
The office noted that the Public Works Department (PWD) is currently clearing affected areas, working swiftly to ensure that roads are passable for public access by mid-morning.
In light of the severe weather, Senior Managers and Department Heads have been directed to assess their office spaces as soon as possible to determine their readiness to reopen. The Deputy Governor’s Office emphasized that any concerns related to flooding or facility accommodations should be promptly reported to Public Estate Manager, Mr. Floyd Stoutt.
The Circular acknowledged the challenges many public officers may face due to the weather’s impact on their homes or family circumstances. To provide flexibility, Department Heads have been encouraged to activate the Flexible Working Arrangement Policy, allowing remote work for employees where feasible. This accommodation also applies to officers whose children are at home due to the weather.
For those returning to work at 11:00 a.m., officials advised a careful approach due to potential residual hazards on the roads. Further updates will be provided as necessary, and PWD crews are expected to continue their clearance efforts throughout the morning.
