The British Virgin Islands Electricity Corporation (BVIEC) say they continue to lead the way in utility transparency and customer empowerment with the rollout of its newly designed electricity bill format, which was officially implemented in April 2025.
The redesigned bill now provides greater clarity on how customers’ electricity charges are calculated, with detailed breakdowns of fuel-related costs, highlighting that nearly 60% of the typical monthly bill is attributed to fuel expenses.
Since January 2025, BVIEC has contributed an estimated $3.82 million toward offsetting fuel charges for customers across the Territory. This direct contribution, which reflects the billing period from January to April, is now itemised each month under the “BVIEC Fuel Subsidy per Gallon” section, allowing customers to clearly see how the Corporation supports them in navigating global energy price volatility.
“This is more than just a new bill design,” said Dr. Neil Smith, General Manager of BVIEC. “It’s a promise that we are working with our customers, not just supplying electricity. By highlighting our contribution, we hope to foster deeper trust and transparency.”
The transparent billing format includes:
• Cost of Fuel per Gallon (Surcharge)
• BVIEC Fuel Subsidy per Gallon (Surcharge Subsidy)
• Customer Fuel Surcharge per Gallon (Net Surcharge)
Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Carmen Sully, reaffirmed BVIEC’s commitment:
“We want our customers to know that they are not facing rising energy prices alone. Our monthly fuel subsidy—now clearly displayed on the bill—demonstrates BVIEC’s continued effort to support every home and business.”
BVIEC is encouraging customers to review their bills closely, take note of the new sections, and visit https://bvielectricity.com/ or follow BVIEC on all our social media platforms for regular updates and explanations.
