Gun-related robberies in the Virgin Islands have surged dramatically in 2025, with a 183% increase compared to the same period in 2024, according to Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Kendrick Davis of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force. The statement was made during a press engagement on Friday, May 16, 2025.
Between January and April 2025, there have been 19 reported robberies, 17 of which involved firearms up from just six in the same period last year, only three of which were gun-related.

Davis noted that bars, pubs, and other cash-intensive businesses have become primary targets for criminals seeking cash, jewelry, and valuables from unsuspecting patrons. He cautioned that even law-abiding citizens risk becoming “unwitting victims” as a result of these violent robberies.

Davis also touched on the number of shootings across the territory especially in Tortola which result in 2 deaths of residents who were specifically related to organized crime. Notable he states that victims of robberies could still become victims of these firearm related incidents.

In response to the rise in crime, the RVIPF has heightened its enforcement tactics since January, including stepped-up nighttime patrols, strategic officer deployments, and joint investigations with both local and international partners. These measures have already yielded results.
Davis also highlighted specific operations, including the recovery of a firearm with six rounds of ammunition during a robbery intervention and 200 rounds of ammunition recovered during a vehicle stop in the Cane Garden Bay area. Several suspects have been detained

Davis reiterated the RVIPF’s commitment to public safety, urging community members to remain vigilant while authorities continue to combat the rising threat of gun-related crimes in the Territory.
