The British Virgin Islands is preparing to elevate its football infrastructure with the construction of a new artificial turf pitch, a development that caught the attention of regional football leaders and specialists during a recent site visit.
Marco, representing Adagross—the company overseeing the turf installation—shared insights into the construction process. “We have some little challenges with getting the extension complete, but I think we’ll manage,” he said. “We’re aiming to finish by mid-August, depending on weather conditions.”
The pitch is engineered to withstand the Territory’s weather patterns, including hurricane season. “It’s hard to build a pitch completely resistant to heavy hurricane weather,” Marco noted, “but this one is designed with enough weight and durability to remain stable during typical BVI conditions.”
On the maintenance front, Marco assured the public of the ease of upkeep. “We will supply a maintenance schedule, instructions, and hands-on training,” he said. “Once trained, the team here will be more than capable of maintaining the pitch long-term.”
Andy Davis, First Vice President of the BVI Football Association, detailed the project’s scale and ambition. “The turf will be 70 by 106 meters,” Davis confirmed. “Our vision is to host international and regional matches including World Cup qualifiers and regional tournaments.” This upgraded facility signals the BVI’s growing commitment to football development, with the potential to attract top-tier events and further raise the Territory’s sporting profile on the world stage.
