Member of the Alliance and representative for the Second District -Melvin Mitch Turnbull has come up with a solution to address the rising cost of living – an issue which he says touches every individual, household and business in the territory.
Speaking on the daily radio programme –’Pulse of the People by the Alliance’, Turnbull says for many residents in the BVI, making ends meet has become a daily struggle.
He says from the price of groceries to rent, fuel, and even school supplies the islands, though beautiful, are becoming unaffordable for the very people who live and work here. Turnbull among other things says the high cost of living is not just an inconvenience.
He says it affects how well parents can provide for their children, whether young professionals can stay and build a life here, and how businesses operate when their customers are too stretched to spend.
The second District representative says the very fabric of the society, stability, health, and opportunity, is threatened when basic necessities are out of reach.
Turnbull says having a Consumer Price Index in place is not about stifling businesses. They must pass the legislation to allow this body to operate with real authority.
