Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool has confirmed that she has formally reapplied for the position of Commissioner of Police. Her statement follows a period in which she has overseen key law enforcement operations, including successful firearms and ammunition seizures.
During a recent press exchange, Vanterpool was asked about her interest in the permanent post, her performance to date, and whether she believes she meets the updated requirements outlined by the Governor’s Office.

Vanterpool has been serving in the acting role since the departure of former Commissioner Mark Collins. Since then, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has reported multiple seizures of illegal firearms and ammunition under her leadership.
While some members of the public have expressed support for her confirmation, no official endorsements have been made by elected officials or the Police Service Commission.
The Commissioner recruitment process is being managed by the Governor’s Office in conjunction with the Police Service Commission. Applicants are expected to undergo a formal selection process, which includes interviews, qualifications review, and assessments as outlined in the advertised requirements. Vanterpool declined to go into further detail regarding her application but noted that she respects the integrity and transparency of the process.
