CIBC Caribbean has officially launched the 2025 edition of its Walk for the Cure campaign in the British Virgin Islands with two vibrant and heartfelt Sip & Paint events, held June 17 and 18 at the Creative Waves Arts Hub in Road Town.
Organized in collaboration with the BVI Cancer Society, The walk for the Cure is the BVI’s largest cancer awareness and fundraising initiative. Regionally, the walk for the Cure is one of the largest events for the cause and has raised over $3 million across the Caribbean since its inception, supporting education, prevention, screening, and treatment efforts.
In 2024, the BVI campaign raised $67,000 through the generosity of corporate sponsors, supporters, and fundraising event participants. Notably, $10,000 of that total funded a data collection and analysis initiative undertaken in partnership with the BVICS and conducted by the Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit within Public Health. The research outcomes will play a critical role in the development of the national cancer registry, improving long-term strategies for cancer control in the Virgin Islands.
With an ongoing goal of $75,000 for 2025, the campaign launched in June with two art-centered evenings of creativity and community. Guided by featured artists Desiree Smith and Via Donovan-Hodge, Sip & Paint guests connected through art while supporting the cause. Both artists are showcased in Women’s Vision: Art Through Her Eyes, an exhibition sponsored by CIBC Caribbean that celebrates nine talented female artists from the BVI and runs through July 14 at the Creative Waves Arts Hub.
Upcoming events in support of the Walk for the Cure 2025 in the BVI include the Hike for the Cure in partnership with Hike BVI on July 12, the Hunt for the Cure in collaboration with Hike BVI on Saturday, September 6 and the Cruise for the Cure in collaboration with Metro Tours on Saturday, October 4. The grand finale is the Walk for the Cure on October 27.
“Through Walk for the Cure, we are building more than just awareness — we are funding real initiatives that make a long-term impact,” said Fabian Devonish, Country Head, CIBC Caribbean. ” Last year’s investment in cancer data collection is a powerful example of how our collective efforts can shape the future of public health in the Virgin Islands. We’re proud to stand with the BVI Cancer Society again in 2025 and invite the entire community to get involved, give back, and move us closer to our goal.”
