The BVI Climate Change Fund now stands at about $5M which can be tapped into to make an impact in the territory.
Officials says Climate change puts a strain on the territory’s budget and so it is important the public is educated on what they can do to mitigate against it.
The Virgin Islands expects to launch the Climate Change Trust Fund later this year at the UN Climate Change Conference in Brazil.
At the moment, forty per cent of the Environmental and Tourism Improvement Fund, derived from a $10 levy, has now been dedicated to the trust fund, which will serve as the initial capital to launch the fund and support initial projects.
Minister responsible for Climate Change Julian Fraser believes that public education is very important in getting to where they need to be.

Minister Fraser also said that the Ministry of Finance has to take them seriously in securing the necessary funds they need.
Meanwhile Premier Dr. Natalio Wheatley addressed complaints about the length of time it is taking for persons to access the fund.
