India’s diplomatic ties with BVI formalised 

High commissioner of India to Jamaica and non-resident Consul for the Virgin Islands, Mayank Joshi has officially presented his credentials to premier Dr. Natalio D. Wheatley.

The courtesy call, held on Friday, August 29, marked the beginning of formal diplomatic engagement between the Virgin Islands and India.

In welcoming Joshi, Premier Wheatley highlighted the Government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties. He acknowledged the presence of approximately 200 Indian nationals in the Virgin Islands and commended their contribution to the territory’s socio-economic development.

Talks between premier Wheatley and Joshi centered on cooperation in education and training, with opportunities for Virgin Islanders to benefit from capacity-building initiatives in India. The discussions also explored avenues to boost trade and innovation through technology-driven frameworks.

Premier Wheatley was joined by permanent secretary in the premier’s office,Carolyn Stoutt Igwe, and Acting Director of International Affairs, Dwynel Davis.

The Government of the Virgin Islands has signaled its intention to build on this engagement, with both sides expressing optimism about future partnerships that will foster mutual growth and development.
