DDM monitoring invest 91L potential threat to Virgin Islands

The Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is actively monitoring a developing weather system in the Atlantic, identified as Invest 91L, which could pose a potential threat to the Virgin Islands in the coming days.

According to the latest update, the disturbance is currently located approximately 2,000 miles east-southeast of the Territory and is moving slowly westward. While the system has not yet reached tropical storm status, forecasters expect it could become at least a tropical depression by this weekend or early next week.

At this stage, the track and intensity of Invest 91L remain uncertain, but the system could begin affecting the Virgin Islands late next week into the weekend. The DDM is urging residents to stay alert and take early preparedness steps, including:

  • Staying informed through official updates from the DDM and the National Hurricane Centre.
  • Checking emergency supplies, such as food, water, medications, batteries, and important documents.
  • Relying only on trusted sources to avoid misinformation or rumors.

“Invest 91L is still far from the Territory, but now is the time to prepare,” the DDM advised.

Officials also reminded the public that the DDM is not a meteorological office and the information shared is gathered from multiple professional sources. It is intended for guidance and should not be used as legal or financial evidence.

Residents are encouraged to continue monitoring official channels for the most accurate and up-to-date information as the situation develops.
